Irrigation Water Supply to Improve for 1,200 Hectares of Agricultural Land in Kakheti

Georgian Reclamation LLC, under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, is implementing large-scale irrigation and drainage infrastructure projects across the country.

In Telavi Municipality, in the village of Vardisubani, cleaning works are underway on the Upper Alazani irrigation system. A 2.7-kilometer section of the main canal is being cleared of sediment and vegetation. These efforts will increase the canal’s capacity and facilitate the unobstructed flow of water. As a result, irrigation water supply to approximately 1,200 hectares of agricultural land will be improved.

Georgian Reclamation plans to complete the canal cleaning works by the end of May.

Notably, land improvement infrastructure projects carried out in the Kakheti region from 2012 to 2024 have enabled irrigation access for an additional 20,140 hectares of agricultural land and improved irrigation supply for 16,285 hectares.
