Hazelnut culture for the population of Western Georgia is one of the main sources of income, noted Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili.
He made these remarks at the working meeting of the advisory council for the development of nut crops.
The 4th meeting of the Advisory Board for the development of Georgian hazelnut sector was held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Giorgi Khanishvili, Deputy Minister, Yuri Nozadze, representatives of the National Food Agency of Georgia, Agricultural Scientific Research Center, Georgian Hazelnut Growers Association (GHGA), experts and exporters attended the meeting.
The minister held a series of events to get a good hazelnut harvest this year.
“The knowledge and experience accumulated in recent years in various fields, including the fight against the invasive pests will help us to take more effective measures in the future and get a high-quality harvest," Levan Davitashvili said.
The Members of the Advisory Board positively assessed activities implemented by the coordination center against the brown marmorated stink bug and measures taken in this respect. At the meeting, the participants set their focus on the hazelnut price and noted that hazelnut price is depended on its quality.
The “hazelnut rescue program” is a government program that includes large-scale consulting work, raising public awareness for conducting timely activities and avoiding damage to the hazelnut crop.
