The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) approved its 2024 Activity Report during a public hearing.
The report covers key developments in the electricity, natural gas, water supply and amelioration sectors, highlights projects implemented to improve regulatory frameworks, and provides an overview of GNERC’s diverse areas of activity.
According to Davit Narmania, the GNERC Chairman, in 2024 the Commission prioritized enhancing regulation, protecting consumer rights and strengthening cooperation with international organizations.
"Throughout 2024, the Commission reviewed a number of issues concerning consumer rights protection, including citizens' complaints about unjustified charges by utility companies. The Commission places strong emphasis on maintaining close relations with international organizations and regulatory authorities of neighboring countries.
Alongside a number of innovations, it is noteworthy that in 2024 a new regulation was introduced regarding the implementation of a unified central heating system in multi-apartment residential buildings. Additionally, a statistics portal was launched, providing detailed information on actual electricity supply and consumption balances, as well as statistical data on net metering and retail electricity consumers. The GNERC 2024 Activity Report offers a sectoral analysis that enables the public to receive detailed information of its interest“,- said Davit Narmania.
