Georgia’s National Environment Agency Participates in Black Sea Marine Data Workshop in Istanbul

Representatives of Georgia’s National Environment Agency participated in a regional workshop in Istanbul as part of the “Black Sea Smart Marine Environmental Outcomes System” project, jointly implemented with Turkish and Romanian partners and financially supported by the European Union.

The project aims to establish a smart communication system for collecting and sharing environmental data from mobile stations and monitoring bases across the Black Sea region.

During the workshop, participants discussed opportunities for data sharing, the integration of innovative technologies, and the acquisition and use of marine drones to improve environmental monitoring capabilities.

The initiative is designed to enable continuous monitoring of key marine environmental indicators—including temperature, salinity, oxygen levels, and seabed characteristics—and to enhance cross-border cooperation. It will also help identify and address data gaps in existing marine databases across the region.
