Forest Road Rehabilitation Underway in Kekhovani, Samtskhe-Javakheti

Rehabilitation of forest roads is actively underway in the village of Kekhovani, located in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. The construction covers a 3-kilometer stretch and is part of Phase II of the “Sustainable Forest Management in Adigeni Municipality” project.

According to the National Forestry Agency, the project aims to enhance access to forests and promote better management of forest resources.

“We are implementing forest road rehabilitation projects nationwide. In Kekhovani, the construction follows Slovenian practices and aligns with European standards. These roads not only improve access to firewood for local residents but also facilitate forest maintenance, restoration activities, and—when necessary—firefighting efforts,” said Koba Silagadze, Head of the Samtskhe-Javakheti Forestry Service.

The "Sustainable Forest Management in Adigeni Municipality" initiative is implemented by the WWF Caucasus Programme Office and the Zavita Consulting Consortium, with financial support from the Government of Slovenia.
