Davit Songulashvili: State Support Programmes Enable Farmers to Expand Production

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili visited the Green Country poultry farm in the village of Tserovani, Mtskheta Municipality, and learned about the farm’s operations.

The poultry farm has a production capacity of 400,000 broiler chickens. Its products are sold on the domestic market, and the farm employs 40 people.

“The development of the poultry sector is important for increasing domestic production. The Tserovani poultry farm has created conditions that meet modern production standards, and its products are sold on the local market. Importantly, support provided under state programmes is delivering tangible results and enabling farmers to expand their production,” Davit Songulashvili said.

Green Country is a beneficiary of the Rural Development Agency. In 2014 and from 2016 to 2021, the farm received preferential agrocredit to finance the construction and equipping of its poultry facilities, as well as the establishment of a slaughterhouse.

Under the Preferential Agrocredit Project, banks have issued more than 2,500 loans worth over GEL 280 million for the establishment and development of poultry farms across Georgia. The Rural Development Agency’s co-financing amounts to approximately GEL 67 million.

In the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region alone, banks have issued 61 loans worth GEL 5.3 million, with the Rural Development Agency’s co-financing exceeding GEL 1.5 million.

During the visit, the Minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister Lasha Avaliani, Director of the Rural Development Agency Zurab Gozalishvili, Mayor of Mtskheta Municipality Gogi Abuashvili and Chair of the Mtskheta Municipal Council Giorgi Eloshvili.
