Davit Songulashvili: Georgia and Azerbaijan Share Strategic Goals and a Strong Regional Partnership

Georgian Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Davit Songulashvili, recently completed a working visit to Azerbaijan, where he highlighted the close cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

“Georgia and Azerbaijan have an unwavering partnership and common strategic goals. Our cooperation in the field of agriculture is deeply connected to our shared agenda of regional stability, economic development, and environmental protection,” Songulashvili stated.

The visit included several high-level engagements. Notably, Georgia’s national pavilion was prominently featured at the CASPIAN AGRO 2025 international agricultural exhibition, organized with the support of the Georgian government. The pavilion was visited by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, underscoring the strategic alliance and friendship between the two countries.

“Our goal is for Georgia to be represented with dignity at large-scale international exhibitions. Platforms like CASPIAN AGRO provide an opportunity to showcase the country’s potential and boost export prospects,” the Minister noted.

Climate change was a key focus of the visit. Minister Songulashvili met with Mukhtar Babayev, the Azerbaijani Presidential Envoy for Climate Issues. The two discussed national and regional climate policy, pressing environmental challenges, and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.

In addition, Songulashvili took part in the international conference “Agriculture: Mobilizing Countries for Nature”, where he spoke at a panel discussion on climate change. He emphasized the global urgency of climate action and agriculture’s role in sustainable development.

“I would like to express my special gratitude to the Georgian Embassy in Azerbaijan for organizing this important visit and for their continued work in deepening relations between our countries,” he added.

As part of the visit, the Minister:

  • Hosted President Ilham Aliyev at Georgia’s pavilion at CASPIAN AGRO 2025

  • Participated in the high-level conference on agriculture and nature

  • Held a bilateral meeting with Mukhtar Babayev on climate collaboration and regional sustainability efforts.
