David Songulashvili: Maximizing the Production Potential of Nut Crops, Including Almonds, Is a Strategic Priority
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili visited the almond orchards of Ivris Farms in Kakheti. The company is a beneficiary of state programs, including preferential agro-credit and the “Instil the Future” grant initiative.
Founded in 2022, Ivris Farms is focused on developing a modern model of nut crop production. Currently, the company’s almond orchards span 350 hectares.
David Songulashvili emphasized the importance of fully utilizing Georgia’s production potential for nut crops—particularly almonds.
“In recent years, with the support of state programs, the intensive cultivation of nut orchards has begun. The production of Georgian hazelnuts, almonds, and walnuts is increasing, which means that more Georgian products are entering international markets, driving up demand and boosting export figures. This contributes directly to strengthening our national economy. The state will continue to implement support programs, with the goal of generating more wealth—an essential foundation for improving the well-being of our population,” said Songulashvili.
Ivris Farms cooperates actively with Spanish agricultural experts, applying customized phytosanitary and fertilization plans that comply with European regulations. The orchards are equipped with a modern drip irrigation system, supplied by the Ivri River. To support irrigation and other operations, the company has also established a 1.75-megawatt power grid, which powers both the irrigation system and the on-site warehouse.
“In three years, we expect to export up to 160 tons of almonds. Once the orchards reach full fruiting capacity, our export volume will rise to 800–900 tons. Through our work, we are creating jobs and making a significant contribution to both the agronomic and economic development of the region and the country,” said Nino Tskhadaia, Director of Ivris Farms.
The Minister was accompanied by Giorgi Aladashvili, State Representative in the Kakheti Region, and Lasha Dolidze, Deputy Minister.
