David Songulashvili: “If the European Union Has an Interest in Concrete Cooperation with Georgia, We Are Ready Today”
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili summarized his working visit to France, according to information released by the Ministry.
“The most important part of my visit to France was participation in the 92nd General Session of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) and my meeting with the organization’s Director General.
We discussed the importance of WOAH’s long-standing efforts in protecting animal health worldwide. From our side, it was emphasized that the strategic objectives of WOAH fully align with Georgia’s national priorities. We continue our active cooperation, thereby contributing significantly to the global fight against animal diseases and the promotion of the One Health approach.”
The Minister also highlighted the re-election of Vasil Basiladze, Georgia’s Chief Veterinary Officer, for a second term as Vice-President of the WOAH Regional Commission for Europe—an achievement that underscores Georgia’s growing influence within the organization.
During the visit, Minister Songulashvili held key bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Spain, Portugal, France, and Kenya. These discussions focused on sharing knowledge and best practices, as well as exploring opportunities to expand trade and economic relations.
A key topic at the meetings was Georgia’s European integration process.
“European integration is a top priority for Georgia. Until 2028, we will continue implementing the Association Agreement, including the harmonization of legislation. Our roadmap is clear—we aim to be fully prepared by 2030. At the same time, if the European Union has an interest in concrete cooperation with Georgia, we are ready for it today,” said Songulashvili.
Since the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement with the EU, Georgia has made notable progress in increasing exports to European markets. According to the Ministry, maintaining this momentum will require the active engagement of the private sector and encouragement of foreign investment to ensure shared economic growth.
