Giorgi Shagidze Appointed Deputy CEO and CFO of Bank of Georgia Group

Former Chief Executive Officer of Moldova’s largest bank, maib, Giorgi Shagidze has been appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Bank of Georgia Group. The announcement was made by Shagidze himself.

According to his statement, starting from March — subject to regulatory approval — he will join Bank of Georgia Group in the roles of Deputy CEO and CFO.

“I am delighted to share this news: from March, subject to the relevant regulatory approval, I will be joining Bank of Georgia Group as Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

Over the past several years, I had the privilege of leading a full-scale transformation at maib. This chapter is now coming to an end, and I am deeply grateful to the people and partners who made this journey possible.

Equipped with this experience and many years of practice as a Chief Financial Officer, I look forward to working closely with the Group’s leadership and teams to jointly support the next phase of growth, expand internationally, and create long-term, sustainable value.

I would like to sincerely thank Archil Gachechiladze for his trust and leadership, as well as the Supervisory Board and management for their confidence. I would also like to specifically highlight the contribution of Sulkhān Gvalia, his partnership, and the many years of value he has brought to the organization.

Earlier in my career, I worked at the Bank of Georgia, where I had a close and successful collaboration with Sulkhan. Returning now — with significantly broader responsibilities and scale — is both deeply meaningful and highly motivating for me,” Shagidze wrote.

For reference, Giorgi Shagidze has been leading maib since 2021. In 2024, he confirmed that he would remain in the role of CEO until 31 December 2025, marking the completion of a major transformation phase at the bank.
