Updating Vineyard Cadastral Data Becomes Mandatory for Ownership and Operational Changes

Updating cadastral data for vineyards is mandatory in cases of change of ownership, establishment of a new vineyard, lease agreements, and other modifications.

The updating of cadastral data is currently being carried out on-site in all municipalities of viticulture regions by representatives of the Viticulture Cadastre Division of the National Wine Agency.

Under the current regulation, without a vineyard cadastral extract, a grower will not be able to deliver grapes to a winery, and a winemaker will not be able to sell wine.

The vineyard cadastre is essential for the development of the viticulture and winemaking sector and for increasing the competitiveness of Georgian wine in international markets. The cadastre is created through the identification of each vineyard plot and the detailed recording of information about growers and vineyards. Registered vineyard data include grape varieties, planting dates, vineyard condition, location, area, and other relevant details. As of today, nearly 50,000 hectares of vineyards have been recorded nationwide.

The National Wine Agency launched the program in 2014, and by 2023 it had covered all viticulture regions. The Agency regularly updates cadastral data related to vineyards.
