Levan Ujmajuridze Highlights the Importance of Georgian Grapevine Genetic Heritage at the International Forum on Wine Marketing and Media

The International Forum on Wine Marketing and Media, held in Tbilisi, brought together local and international wine experts, marketers, sommeliers, writers, academics, wine producers, and other stakeholders.

Within the forum, Professor Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture (LEPL), delivered a presentation titled “Identification, Restoration, Research, and Conservation of Local Georgian Grapevine Varieties.”

In his address, Ujmajuridze discussed the unique genetic diversity of Georgian grapevines, their historical significance, the ongoing processes of identification and conservation, the work conducted by the Center in this area, and the key challenges and achievements in Georgian viticulture and winemaking.

“It is crucial not only to preserve and study Georgia’s grapevine genetic heritage, but also to actively promote it at local and international platforms as a foundational element of the country’s wine industry. The more initiatives we implement in this direction, the stronger Georgia’s wine industry will position itself on the global market,” stated Ujmajuridze.

The forum featured seminars, masterclasses, and panel discussions aimed at promoting Georgian wine internationally and strengthening connections among wine professionals.

The event was organized by the platform Madame Sommelier, with support from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the National Wine Agency, the National Tourism Administration, the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture (LEPL), Tbilisi City Hall, and municipalities from the Kakheti region.
