Levan Mekhuzla: A Record 3,000-Ton Grape Harvest Fully Completed in the Racha Region
Up to 3,000 tons of grapes of various varieties have been processed in the Racha region, the largest share of which consists of Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli.
More than 1,400 winegrowers participated in the harvest, earning a total income of 23.5 million GEL from grape sales. Sixty wineries were involved in harvesting and processing.
“This year, a record volume of grapes was processed in Racha—almost 80% more than last year’s harvest. The grapes were distinguished by exceptional quality, which allows us to say that the 2025 Racha wines will be outstanding and of very high quality,” said Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency.
To encourage private sector participation and ensure an organized harvest, a government-approved subsidy program was implemented in the region. Under the program, all companies that purchased and processed at least 3 tons of Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes grown in the Khvanchkara microzone and paid winegrowers no less than 8 GEL per kilogram received a subsidy. The subsidy amount for wine companies in the Racha-Lechkhumi region is set at 4 GEL per kilogram for both Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli.
As of October 20, 326.4 thousand tons of grapes have been processed across Georgia: 320 thousand tons in Kakheti, up to 3 thousand tons in Racha, and the rest in other wine-producing regions.
