Grape Harvest Underway in Kakheti with 13,000 Tons Already Processed
As of September 2, the grape harvest in Georgia's Kakheti region is well underway, with approximately 13,000 tons of grapes processed so far. The harvest began in the Dedoplistskaro municipality, with additional grapes being picked across other parts of Kakheti.
For 2024, the grape harvest is expected to reach around 300,000 tons. Of the grapes processed so far, about 7,500 tons are red, 2,300 tons are white, and the rest are various other varieties. Currently, 230 wine enterprises have registered with the vintage coordination headquarters to participate in this year's harvest.
The prices for grapes this season are set at 1.07 GEL per kilogram for Rkatsiteli and between 1.30 and 1.40 GEL per kilogram for Saperavi, depending on the quality.
To support winegrowers and ensure the stable development of the wine industry, the Georgian government is providing subsidies for this year's harvest. More than 20,000 winegrowers are expected to benefit, along with 500 companies involved in grape purchasing and processing. Companies that buy and process at least 100 tons of Rkatsiteli grapes will receive a state subsidy and must pay a minimum of 1.00 GEL per kilogram.
The vintage coordination headquarters and the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture's hotline in Telavi are available 24 hours a day to assist with the harvest.
