Grape Harvest in Kakheti Surpasses 283,000 Tons Amid Weather Challenges
The grape harvest in Kakheti is in its active phase. As of October 13, nearly 283,000 tons of grapes have already been processed.
According to Aleksandre Koberidze, Deputy Head of the Grape Harvest Coordination Headquarters, this year’s harvest volume exceeds last year’s by 30%.
“The bountiful harvest and rainy weather in both Kakheti and the Racha region have shortened the optimal harvesting period, resulting in peak harvesting days and an increased flow of grape-loaded vehicles to wineries—especially during the busiest periods,” noted Koberidze.
He explained that grape delivery involves accounting and specific technological procedures, all of which require time. Additionally, each winery has a daily processing limit.
Koberidze urged growers to follow the official procedures: “Winegrowers must obtain information from their village representatives, receive the appropriate certificate, and then begin harvesting and delivering grapes to the designated winery.”
He emphasized that members of the Harvest Coordination Headquarters provide village representatives with daily updates on processing quotas and delivery locations. Based on this, village representatives issue notices to growers with specific delivery times and destinations.
“This system is designed to reduce queues. The Harvest Coordination Headquarters is fully mobilized, and not a single kilogram of grapes will go undelivered,” Koberidze added.
