Grape Harvest in Kakheti Reaches 110,000 Tons as Focus Remains on Quality and Exports

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili, together with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, and the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, visited the Grape Harvest Coordination Headquarters in Gurjaani, where they received a detailed briefing on grape picking and storage in the Kakheti region.

According to the Minister, the harvest in Kakheti is progressing smoothly and successfully, with significant attention given to maintaining grape quality despite recent weather conditions.

"It was very important to set different prices for high-quality and substandard grapes, which encouraged the delivery of quality grapes regardless of the weather. The wineries and wine cellars are fully prepared, and the harvest process is proceeding smoothly and consistently. Every winegrower has the opportunity to deliver their harvest. Quality grapes directly contribute to the production of quality wine, which guarantees greater export opportunities, the development of new markets, and increased competitiveness. All of this ultimately serves the growth of the country's economy," said Songulashvili.

As of September 24, a total of 110,000 tons of grapes have been processed in the Kakheti region. This year’s harvest season also saw a record daily processing volume of up to 14,000 tons.

At this stage, harvesting is underway in almost all Kakheti municipalities, except for Sagarejo, where grapes ripen slightly later. Approximately 9,000 winegrowers have already delivered grapes to wineries.

Of the grapes processed, around 52,000 tons are Rkatsiteli, approximately 50,000 tons are Saperavi, and the rest are comprised of various other grape varieties.
