Georgia Ranked 17th in the List of Largest Wine Exporting Countries
Georgia ranked 17th in the updated ranking of the largest wine exporters compiled by the American Association of Wine Economists (AAWE).
AAWE presented a list of the 80 largest wine exporting countries in the world as of the end of 2018.
According to AAWE, Georgia's wine exports in 2018 brought $196.9 million. In the ranking of 2017, Georgia ranked 19th with an income of $171 million.
Georgia's neighbors in the ranking of 2018 were Lithuania - 18th place ($188.3 million), and Austria - 16th line ($217.4 million).
The first place in the ranking is occupied by France, for which wine exports generated revenues of more than $11 billion. Italy, which earned over $7.3 billion in exports, ranked second, and Spain ranked third with over $3.5 billion.
In 2018, 86.2 million bottles of wine (0.75 liters each) were exported from Georgia to 53 countries of the world. This is the country's absolute record for the last 30 years. The figures of 2018 are 13 percent higher than the statistics of 2017. The growth trend continues. For the seven months of 2019, wine exports from Georgia increased by 4 percent, and export revenues increased by 6 percent.
AAWE is a non-profit educational organization engaged in economic research, as well as the analysis and exchange of ideas in the field of winemaking. The main activities of the Association are the publication of a peer-reviewed economic magazine on the wine industry and the organization of scientific conferences related to winemaking.
