Georgia is Expecting a Record High Grape Harvest This Year

Georgia is expecting a record grape harvest this year—roughly 300,000 tons. The subsidy program is still in effect.

According to the government's decision, all the enterprises that buy Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri green grapes from the vineyard for at least 90 cents will receive 35 cents as a subsidy.

The Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture says that 25,000 winegrowers and about 300 enterprises will be involved in the harvest this year.

In the background of encouraging the industry, as Otar Shamugia states that the quality of export wine and its compliance with the existing norms are checked by international companies, and the cadastre of vineyards is being carried out in the country. The process has already been completed in Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi. 

The organizational headquarters will coordinate the harvest. The National Wine Agency, and the local government are involved in the process.

In 2021, Georgia exported a record amount of 107 million bottles of wine. In total, last year, approximately 240,000 tons of grapes were processed in the country. This year, winemakers expect a loss, which is due to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
