Georgia Introduces New Rules for Vineyard Registration and Planting
Owners of newly established commercial vineyards must complete registration by May 1, 2026.
According to amendments to the Law on Vine and Wine, the rules governing the establishment of commercial vineyards have been updated. Any individual who planted a vineyard before May 1 of this year and has not yet registered it in the unified vineyard cadastre database must apply by May 1, 2026, to representatives of the Viticulture Cadastre Division of the National Wine Agency of Georgia in their respective municipality and officially register the vineyard.
Under the new regulations, after May 1, establishing a vineyard for commercial purposes will only be permitted with prior approval from the National Wine Agency. Otherwise, individuals who plant vineyards without authorization will not be allowed to commercially sell the harvested grapes or the wine produced from them.
This regulation applies only to those planning to establish vineyards for commercial activities and does not affect individuals planting vineyards for personal use.
Approval from the National Wine Agency for vineyard establishment will be issued free of charge.
These changes are part of a broader reform aimed at improving wine quality and regulating the vineyard establishment process. All vineyard parameters must meet established standards, contributing to higher-quality harvests and the production of premium wine.
