Georgia Comes 17th in the World’s Wine Exports Rating

In 2019, Georgia ranked 17th in the world’s wine export.

Based on the CIA report, the World Factbook has published an article on the global wine exports, according to which, in 2019, wine exports were carried out by 149 countries and Georgia ranked 17th among them, up from the 20th place of 2018.

In 2019, Georgia exported wines of USD 223 million, up 13% compared to the 2018 exports. The wine exports shrank by 5.6% in 2020 to USD 210 million. The 2019 wine exports amounted to USD 36 billion and Georgia’s ratio stood at 0.6%.

Georgia’s wine exports grew in 2013-2014, when Russia opened its market for Georgian wines, but in 2015, the economic crisis in Russia halved the exports, while growth tendencies were restored in 2016-2019.

In 2020, Georgia exported wines to 58 countries, including, the greater part of $120 million was sent to Russia (57%); Ukraine is second with $24 million; China ranks third with $13 million; Poland is fourth with $11 million, Belarus - $9.4 million, Kazakhstan - $7 million and the USA $4.2 million.

As for neighboring countries, in 2019 Armenia exported only 12-million-USD wines and the country ranked 51st  in the world. Russia and Turkey exported wines of $10 million each, while Azerbaijani’s wine exports amounted to only $7.3 million.
