"At this Stage, the Delivery of Grapes to Racha is Proceeding Without Interruption" - Levan Mekhuzla
According to data from October 14, up to 2 thousand tons of grapes have been processed in the Ambrolauri municipality of Racha.
"Grape delivery in Racha is proceeding smoothly. At the initial stage of the harvest, fearing worsening climatic conditions, the population harvested grapes in one go. The number of harvested grapes was much more than the wine cellars could process, which led to an increase in the flow of loaded vehicles at the enterprises. The population should take into account the capacities of the existing cellars and receive information from the village governor about the harvest coordination headquarters, which indicates when and which enterprise they should visit to deliver the grapes. At this stage, the problem has been eliminated, the harvested grapes have been fully accommodated," said Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency.
According to Levan Mekhuzla, in Racha, the 2025 harvest is distinguished by both quantity and quality indicators.
"We will have a record harvest in Racha. In recent years, the amount of processed grapes did not exceed 2 thousand tons. This year, we can already boldly declare that more than 2 thousand tons of grapes will be processed. It is noteworthy that the increase in quantity is not at the expense of quality, because the grapes in Racha are healthy and well-conditioned, the average sugar content is 22%, which gives grounds to say that this year the Racha wine will be special and high-quality, including the protected designation of origin wine "Khvanchkara", - noted Levan Mekhuzla.
In the Racha region, in order to stimulate the involvement of the private sector in the harvest process and organize the harvest, a subsidy program is being implemented by the government decision. The subsidy will be received by all companies that purchase and process at least 3 tons of Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes grown in the “Khvanchkara” microzone and pay the winegrower at least 8 GEL. The amount of state subsidy that wine companies in the Racha-Lechkhumi region will receive is 4 GEL for both 1 kg of Alexandrouli and 1 kg of Mujuretuli grapes.
