On January 21, Apple TV+ will premiere the second season of the Emmy-winning, multilingual series Drops of God. The new season will take millions of viewers worldwide on a journey through the world of wine culture and gastronomy—including Georgia.
“A fictional series about wine could not overlook Georgia. This is the result of the success Georgian wine has achieved on the international stage. Georgian wine culture is recognized not only within the wine world but globally as one of the most important cultural legacies. Around a year and a half ago, we met with the producers and creative team of the series. We are eagerly awaiting the premiere, which is important for increasing awareness of Georgian wine. The series will inspire viewers to taste Georgian wine. This is yet another recognition of Georgian wine and another outcome of the work of the National Wine Agency,” said Levan Mekhuzla, Chair of the National Wine Agency of Georgia.
Parts of Season Two were filmed in Georgia with the participation of production companies Studio 99 and Asi Film, supported by the “Film in Georgia” program of Produce in Georgia, under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. The project’s consultant was Shalva Khetsuriani, President of the Georgian Sommelier Association.
Drops of God is based on the bestselling Japanese manga of the same name and is a French–Japanese drama that has received high acclaim from critics and audiences worldwide.
The story centers on the children of the legendary French sommelier Alexandre Léger, creator of the world’s largest and most valuable wine collection, around which the first season unfolds. In the new season, the protagonists set out to uncover the origin of the collection’s most exceptional—and anonymous—bottle of wine. To achieve this, the main character travels to several countries, including Georgia, bringing Georgian wine culture and gastronomy to a global audience.
