AAWE: Georgian Wine Exports Diversified after Embargo

The American Association of Wine Economists (AAWE) has published a report on Georgian wine exports. According to AAWE, the 2006 Russian embargo inspired Georgian winemakers to seek new exports markets.

“Russia remains an important exports market for Georgian wines, but the 2006-2013 Embargo on Georgian wines inspired Georgian winemakers to seek new exports markets”, the AAWE report reads.

AAWE has also published the frontpage of Russian-language newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda, where Russian officials called Russian citizens to stop drinking Georgian wines.

“On May 5, 2006 Russian Komsomolskaya Pravda published an illustration calling on audience not to drink Georgian wines. The illustration read: “Respect Yourself ad Your Homeland, Do not Drink Georgia Wine”
