8th Georgian Wine Forum Held in California, USA
The 8th Georgian Wine Forum was held in Davis and San Francisco, California, supported by the National Wine Agency and the Consulate General of Georgia in San Francisco, and organized by the America-Georgia Business Council.
As part of the forum, a scientific seminar was held at the Robert Mondavi Institute in Davis, bringing together scientists, economists, and wine professionals. Participants discussed strategies for establishing Georgian wine on the U.S. market, its marketing potential, and the current state of Georgia’s wine industry.
Additionally, in San Francisco, a conference and tasting session were held, focused on Georgian wine culture, history, grape variety diversity, traditional winemaking methods, and the economic and marketing aspects of Georgian wine.
Tamta Kvelaidze, Head of the Marketing and PR Department at the National Wine Agency, attended the event. She emphasized the importance of such activities for strengthening Georgian wine’s presence in the U.S.:
“Georgian wine has great potential in the U.S. market. Last year, we recorded a historic export high of 1.2 million liters of Georgian wine to the United States. Georgian wine is featured at all major U.S. exhibitions. With our support, tastings are held, and we organize visits for American wine professionals to Georgia to familiarize them with our wine and culture,” said Kvelaidze.
It is worth noting that the Georgian Wine Forum traditionally includes a scientific conference, where researchers from various countries present and discuss academic studies related to Georgian grape culture and history.
The United States is considered a strategic export market for Georgian wine. To support its promotion and sales growth, the National Wine Agency has been conducting targeted marketing campaigns and events—including the Georgian Wine Forum—since 2013. These efforts have significantly contributed to increasing awareness and exports of Georgian wine in the U.S.
