Which Country’s Tourists Spent the Most Money in Georgia?

In the first half of 2022, Georgia received $1.14 billion in revenue from international travelers. The National Bank of Georgia disseminates information about this. The highest revenue was recorded in June, when 387,000 visitors in the country spent $302 million dollars.

The National Bank report includes tourism income by country. In this regard, the Russian Federation is in the first place, from which long-term migrants entered the country along with tourists this year. In total, Russians spent $219 million in Georgia this year. Belarus is in second place for visitors (migrants), who spent 122.6 million in Georgia this year.

In total, in the first half of 2022, 1.43 million visitors were in Georgia this year. Accordingly, the tourist flow was restored to 44% of the pre-pandemic period. However, the restoration of tourism revenues is on a much higher level, as the country received 1.14 billion dollars in revenue during the same period, which is 78% of the pre-pandemic period.

In total, in the six months of 2022, Georgia received 1.43 million international visitors, their expenses are distributed according to countries as follows:

  1. Russia - $219 million, 247,149 visitors, the average spend of $885
  2. Belarus - $123 million, 41,955 visitors, the average spend of $2,922
  3. European Union* - $121 million, 97,496 visitors, average spend of one $1,240
  4. Turkey - $109 million, 262,137 visitors, the average spend of $415
  5. Ukraine - $108 million, 70,903 visitors, the average spend of $1,523
  6. Israel - $105 million, 84,577 visitors, the average spend of $1,237
  7. Armenia - $43 million, 195,770 visitors, the average spend of $218
  8. Azerbaijan - $39 million, 66,398 visitors, the average spend of $592
  9. Saudi Arabia - $38 million, 29,763 visitors, the average spend of $1,277
  10. Iran - $31 million, 37,229 visitors, the average spend of $838

Other countries spent $208.7 million dollars.

Currently, Russian citizens' spending is 19% of total tourism revenue.
