When will Georgian Ski Resorts Open?

Acting Vice Prime Minister of Georgia Maia Tskitishvili hopes that in February-March 2021, certain activities will be allowed at the ski resorts. She stated this on Euronews Georgia. During her visit to the program "News This Evening", Maia Tskitishvili spoke about the problems of the tourism industry working in the mountain ski resorts, which were caused by the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic.

"Today we have a very difficult period. The Prime Minister also noted that we have grounds for very cautious optimism, but it is very important that we do not ruin the results we have achieved with the help of restrictions by hasty opening. So we need to look a little more closely at how the trend of the virus spreading will change. Therefore we can make decisions about when and in what doses we can open ski resorts this year. Maybe we should hope that a little later, in February, in March, we will be able to at least partially allow some kind of activity at the ski resorts," - said Maia Tskitishvili. According to her, benefits for the tourism industry are also defined in the 2021 budget.

The Acting Vice Prime Minister also spoke about the importance of restrictions imposed across the country and said that these regulations are not as strict as, for example, in European countries.

"Even during the first wave, our restrictions were not as strict as we saw in many European countries. For example, there was no restriction on people leaving the house during the day. The restrictions on movement were mainly in the evening, and many of the restrictions that applied in European countries were never enacted in our country. The current restrictions are even softer than they were in the spring, and therefore even softer than what we see again and again in the advanced European countries with health and economy," Maia Tskitishvili explained.

The Acting Vice Prime Minister believes that today the Georgian healthcare system is better prepared to deal with the daily number of co-addicts than in the spring, when the world did not have adequate knowledge about the management of this virus and pandemic.
