Unemployed Guides Suggest Resuming Work by the Fall

The suspension of tourist activities in order to prevent coronavirus has dealt a major blow to the activities of tourist guides.

According to the Guides Association, about 2,000 people employed in the field remain unemployed. The association says that almost all reservations on tours until October have been canceled. As Keti Meladze, the chairperson of the Guides Association, told Business Partner, the guides hope that they will be able to resume their work from late autumn.

"We can only hope that the reservations for the October tours, which we had in advance, have not been canceled. We think the work may be resumed in the late fall, but I can't say for sure in advance. We wish for it and still believe it, ”said Keti Meladze.

Prior to the resumption of work, the Guides Association conducts free lectures for unemployed guides in order to improve their skills. Lectures are held twice a week online.
