Milan, Prague, Athens, Salonika, Larnaca, Memmingen Wizz Air’s Airbase to Resume Operation in Kutaisi From July

“Wizz Air’s decision to restore Kutaisi airbase will increase domestic employment”, Tamar Archuadze, director of the Georgian Airports Association noted and added that’s this decision would stimulate both direct and indirect investments.

“Amid the pandemic, the airline had to relocate airplanes to its main base in Budapest, but now the airline plans to restore all bases in various European countries. This decision signifies that domestic citizens of Georgia will be employed at Kutaisi International Airport because the airbases employ domestic citizens for their flights. Today, the majority of these crews are based abroad and they have the opportunity to come back to Georgia and continue their work in Georgia. Therefore, Wizz Air creates significant employment opportunities for Kutaisi and Imereti Region residents”, Tamar Archuadze said. Starting July 1, Europe’s rapidly-growing low-cost airline Wizz Air will return its airplanes to the rehabilitated international airport of Kutaisi to fulfill direct flights to Europe from Georgia: Milan, Prague, Athens, Salonika, Larnaca, Memmingen.

“Maybe, the ordinary passenger does not feel the difference when buying tickets on based or non-based directions. The based airplane starts the flights and fulfills flights to the airport, where it holds the base, for instance to Milan, direct flights will start from Kutaisi and end in Kutaisi and they will be continued to other directions affixed to the specifically based airplane. The base makes cooperation between airlines and airports more flexible and simpler. The airline enjoys preferences at our airport and simultaneously, the company employs domestic citizens”, Tamar Archuadze noted.
