Kutaisi Airport to Operate 5 New Destinations - Boosting Tourism by 30%
Within the aviation forum CONNECT 2023 held in Morocco, the Director of the Union of Georgian Airports, Irakli Karkashadze, had a meeting with the management of Wizz Air.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the details of operations related to the third based ship and new destinations, as well as the further expansion of the airline in Georgia.
According to the Union of Airports, the meeting was fruitful, and both parties were able to agree on some new plans. Irakli Karkashadze noted that basing the AIRBUS 321neo at Kutaisi International Airport would mean 30% more incoming tourists and more transferred passengers. This was one of the reasons that they expect more than 1 million 200 thousand passengers at the Kutaisi International Airport in 2023.
The details of the meeting revealed that five new destinations AIRBUS 321neo will be operated from the Kutaisi International Airport with the third aircraft based, with a capacity of 239 passengers. Starting from June, direct flights in five directions will be performed with larger capacity and the latest aircraft.
This is excellent news for Georgia's tourism sector as it means more visitors will be able to access the country and explore its attractions. The Association of Airports, which is also participating in the three-day aviation forum, will hold up to 25 meetings with different stakeholders to discuss the future of the aviation industry and the role of airports in the economic development of countries.
