Kutaisi Airport Runway Rehabilitation Begins

From October 10 to October 24, a large-scale rehabilitation of the runway will be carried out at the Kutaisi International Airport.

The budget for the rehabilitation is 8 million GEL, which will be covered by the Union of Georgian Airports from its own revenues.

According to Tamar Archuadze, Director of the Airports Association, Kutaisi International Airport has the highest rate of recovery of passenger flow from the three international airports in January-September 2022.

"According to the data of 9 months, we have a complete restoration of the passenger flow at the Kutaisi International Airport. At this stage, direct regular flights to 28 directions from 17 countries are being carried out at our airport. Along with the increase in flights, due to the safety of the flights, a planned full-scale rehabilitation of the runway is required. The runway will be completely rehabilitated. As for the completion of the works, after the two-week stage, 2-2 days a week with a 12-hour schedule, so as not to interfere with flight operations, the remaining works will continue. Of course, everything depends on the meteorological conditions, Tamar Archuadze said.

As for the passengers, according to the Director of the Airports Union, they had negotiations with the airlines from the beginning of the year and they rearranged their schedules. "Those airlines that operate at Kutaisi International Airport until now will make flights to Tbilisi International Airport in Georgia. The schedules of the airlines are known to the passengers, and accordingly, the tickets have been put on sale. During the period of closure of Kutaisi International Airport, some of our employees will temporarily continue their activities at Tbilisi International Airport. As for the flights to Kutaisi At the international airport, they will be renewed from October 25," Tamar Archuadze said.

Kutaisi International Airport runway repair works will be carried out according to the annual plan, which is a constituent part of the smooth operation of the airport.
