Kutaisi Airport Closes for 2 Weeks Due to Runway Repair

The Union of Georgian Airports plans to rehabilitate the runway of Kutaisi International Airport. The planned infrastructure project will be implemented from October 10 to October 24.

Repair works will be carried out on the part of the foundation of the runway. Due to this, during this period, flights will not be able to operate at Kutaisi airport.

According to Tamar Archuadze, director of the Association of Georgian Airports, complete planned rehabilitation of the 2.5 km long runway of the Kutaisi International Airport is planned. And those airlines that operate at Kutaisi airport will decide for themselves whether to continue flights to other Georgian airports during the rehabilitation period or to pause them for 2 weeks.

"As in the whole world, for the sake of safety, operating companies in Georgia carry out permanent monitoring of the runways of airports. In order to ensure the safety of flights, the suitability of the runway is constantly checked and care is taken to maintain it. The ongoing repair works will be carried out according to the annual plan, which is a constituent part of the proper operation of the airport,'' Tamar Archuadze said.

In connection with the planned airport rehabilitation of Kutaisi Airport, the Union of Airports has announced a tender worth 8 million GEL. The rehabilitation will be carried out entirely with the company's income.
