Google Street View Launches in Georgia: 360-Degree Images to Boost Tourism and Navigation
Google Street View is officially making its debut in Georgia, thanks to a new partnership between Google, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and the Innovation and Technology Agency. The project, which will span the next 12 months beginning in March 2025, aims to capture 360-degree panoramic images across 24 cities throughout the country.
As part of this initiative, Google’s specialized camera-equipped vehicles will traverse approximately 15,000 kilometers of Georgian roads. The mapping will include major cities such as Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, Akhaltsikhe, Mtskheta, Telavi, Zugdidi, Gori, Ozurgeti, Mestia, and others. The primary focus will be on key roads and highways, providing detailed visual access to public spaces.
The panoramic imagery is expected to be published on Google Maps starting in 2026. This feature will significantly enhance navigation within Georgia and is set to become a valuable tool for the country’s growing tourism industry. With Street View, international visitors will be able to explore Georgian cities virtually, helping them plan their trips more effectively and gain a visual understanding of destinations in advance.
Importantly, Google has emphasized that the Street View initiative will only include imagery of public spaces or private areas where permission has been granted. Additionally, users will have access to tools that allow them to report and request the removal of images they consider inappropriate or wish to have blurred—such as their home, car, or themselves—ensuring privacy and security remain a priority.
The launch of Google Street View in Georgia marks a significant step in the country’s digital development and offers a new gateway to showcase its cultural and geographic richness to the world.
