Giorgi Kodua: We are Planning to Start Flights to the USA in June

"We are planning to start flights to America in June,"- According to Giorgi Kodua, the company may fly under the European flag.

The fact is that "Air Georgia" has been waiting for permission to start Tbilisi-New York flights for more than a year. According to Kodua, the certificate should be issued by the Civil Aviation Agency, which should introduce American standards.

"We have appealed to the Georgian authorities that we are ready to start flights. There remains a procedure for the Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia to introduce American standards. The US itself is asking for it. We are now operating according to European regulations", says the director of "Air Georgia", Giorgi Kodua.

However, Kodua notes that the company is negotiating with a Portuguese company to start flights under the European company. Accordingly, the company expects that the first flight from Tbilisi to New York will take place in June.

"If we start operating under the European flag, the responsibility will not fall on the Georgian government. It turns out to be more expensive, so price negotiations are underway with the European company. In the case of flights under the Georgian flag, the price of tickets will be from $950 to $1,000, and under the European flag from $1,200 to $1,300. We will have to find out if society can pay this amount", says Giorgi Kodua.

When asked by BMG how the flights will be carried out, Giorgi Kodua states: "We have two options: Tbilisi-New York or Tbilisi-Brussels-New York".
