Georgia Hosts World Tourism Day, Highlighting Tourism and Peace

On September 27, Georgia hosted the World Tourism Day celebration at the Paragraf Tbilisi Hotel, under the auspices of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

The event, centered around the theme "Tourism and Peace," brought together high-ranking officials, tourism leaders, and delegations from over 40 countries. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili delivered opening remarks, setting the tone for discussions on the global tourism industry's impact on peace and economic growth.

With over 300 delegates, including ministers and tourism professionals, the event featured various discussion panels focused on global tourism trends, the importance of peace for industry growth, and international cooperation. The gathering provided a platform for sharing insights on how tourism can act as a bridge that unites cultures and fosters peace.

One of the keynote speakers, Uzbekistan's Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, Aziz Abduhakimov, expressed admiration for Georgia's progress in tourism. He highlighted Georgia's strategic development in tourism, visa-free travel policies, and collaboration with the private sector as sources of inspiration for Uzbekistan's own tourism growth.

Deputy Minister of Economy Mariam Kvrivishvili spoke about the importance of peace in creating a stable environment for tourism and business. She emphasized Georgia's success in maintaining peace and stability over the past 12 years, which has allowed small and medium-sized businesses to thrive.

UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili underlined the strong connection between tourism and peace, stating that without peace, tourism cannot flourish. He also praised Georgia for hosting the event, which was covered by international media in over 50 countries, further boosting the nation's visibility as a key player in the global tourism industry.

Georgia's hosting of the World Tourism Day for the first time marks a significant milestone in raising awareness of the country's tourism potential. The event, attended by top officials and industry leaders, is expected to have a lasting impact on Georgia’s international tourism profile and economic development.
