Georgia Hosted 1.7 million Visitors in 2020
The 2020 inflow of visitors has declined by an annual 81%. Namely, the country hosted 1.7 million visitors in 2020, down from 9.4 million visitors in 2019.
This segment comprises tourists, transit visitors, and all other categories arriving in the country, the National Tourism Administration reports.
The main part of these visitors, namely, 1.3 million ones, arrived in Georgia in January-March 2020, before the full pandemic lockdown. The April-September period mainly recorded visitors engaged in cargo transportation activities. Ultimately, around 1 million tourist visits were recorded in Georgia in 2020, including 700,000 one-day visitors and transit visitors.
The biggest inflow of tourists was recorded from Turkey (335,949). Azerbaijan ranks second with 295,175 visitors and Armenia is third with 261,295 visitors.
The inflow of tourists that stayed in the country for around 24 hours declined by 79% compared to 2019.
