Another National Park is Planned to be Created in Georgia- Guria National Park
To protect and preserve the unique mountainous landscape of Guria, the Agency for Protected Areas of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), with the financial support of the Swedish Embassy and the active involvement of locals, are launching a project to establish Guria National Park.
To implement this project, various types of research by local and international experts are planned for this stage.
The new project aims to address challenges in Guria forest landscapes, in particular human-induced damage, protect biodiversity and preserve the ecosystem for the well-being of both the local and the wider community.
The creation of Guria National Park will help attract tourist flows to the protected areas, and will enable the local population to experience additional economic benefits.
The ancient forests and plotlands preserved in Guria are recognized as major areas of ecoregion biodiversity (KBA). At the same time, these landscapes are part of the Caucasus Ecoregion Conservation Plan (ECP).
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has been collaborating with the Agency for Protected Areas for many years and has made significant contributions to the development and expansion of the Protected Areas Network.
