14 Millions Allocated in Construction of the Athletes' Village for Freestyle Championship

From February 19 to March 5, 2023, Georgia will host the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding World Championships.

The 14.3 million dollar contract signed by the MTA company under the Ministry of Economy with the Argyese company was published on the website of the State Procurement Agency. According to the document, the contractor should build a sports village before the championship. Direct construction will cost 12.2 million GEL, and the operation of the buildings will cost 2.1 million GEL.

The funds should be used to build temporary buildings that will serve the athletes as well as the attendees.

"According to the project, for the construction of the athletes' village, the production/installation of 122 units of containers, the arrangement of 4 units of large anchor structures (not less than 1400 sq.m.), earthworks, competition furniture, IT hardware equipment and 68 units of toilets will be provided and serviced," the state reads. According to the information published by the Ministry of Economy, the organization of the hosting of the championship, the design and construction of the relevant infrastructure cost the state approximately 300 million GEL.

As part of the World Championship project, new cable cars, artificial snowmaking systems, artificial water reservoirs, 6 new competition tracks were built in Bakuriani, and special safety equipment was purchased. Accordingly, approximately 300 million GEL was invested.

The most expensive infrastructure of the championship is the snowmaking system, for which a contract of 90.5 million GEL was signed with the company TECHNOALPIN. A 79.7 million contract was also signed for the arrangement of artificial lakes.
