Vakhtang Charaia: We Can Congratulate the National Bank on Renewed Cooperation with the IMF
"After a rather tense period with the IMF, I believe we’ve now reached a turning point that signals a warming of relations—something we had all been anticipating. I hope that following this latest mission, Georgia will enter a new phase of cooperation not only with the IMF but also with Western institutions more broadly," said Vakhtang Charaia, Dean of the School of Business at Grigol Robakidze University.
“We can directly congratulate the National Bank of Georgia on the successful continuation of its cooperation with the IMF. The Fund has acknowledged the achievements and progress we’ve made as a country. Therefore, the meeting between the IMF and the National Bank was crucial in shaping the final position,” Charaia noted.
He emphasized that the IMF is not ignoring Georgia's results in areas such as economic growth and low inflation, and it’s encouraging that the organization is proactively recognizing this success.
According to Charaia, the IMF’s decision to raise Georgia’s economic growth forecast for 2025 was expected, especially considering the positive outlook for the years ahead.
“It’s noteworthy that the forecasts for the coming years are also favorable and promising for Georgia. It’s a positive development that the reforms being implemented under the leadership of the National Bank are being acknowledged and appreciated,” Charaia concluded.
