Natia Turnava: IMF–National Bank Cooperation Is Strong, Transparent, and Based on Partnership
President of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) Natia Turnava emphasized the constructive and partnership-based relationship between the National Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) while presenting the Bank’s 2024 annual report to Parliament.
Turnava noted that Georgia is preparing to host an IMF mission visit in the coming days as part of the Fund’s Article IV consultation program. She also highlighted the outcome of recent discussions with the IMF during the Spring Meetings of the IMF and World Bank, where Georgia’s macroeconomic progress was strongly endorsed.
“The cooperation between the IMF and the National Bank is both positive and partnership-based,” Turnava said. “We had productive meetings during the Spring Meetings, where it was clearly noted that international support for Georgia remains strong.”
She added that the upcoming IMF mission presents an opportunity to review outstanding policy issues and pave the way for continued collaboration.
“Within the framework of the mission's visit, we will be able to evaluate all topics previously viewed as open or pending. We are confident that all medium-term targets—whether in the fiscal or monetary sectors—have been met, and in some cases, exceeded,” she said.
Turnava concluded that the NBG is fully aligned with IMF expectations and sees no obstacles to advancing the dialogue on future cooperation.
