Natia Turnava Appointed as First Female President of the National Bank of Georgia
Natia Turnava has been appointed as the President of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), becoming the first woman in the institution’s history to hold this position. The appointment was confirmed by Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, following the unanimous nomination by the National Bank Council.
Turnava has been serving as First Vice President and Acting President of the NBG since June 2023 and has been a member of the National Bank Council since June 2022.
With an extensive background in economics and governance, Turnava holds a Doctor of Economics degree from Tbilisi State University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Cumbria, UK. She has also pursued studies at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Joint Vienna Institute (JVI).
Throughout her career, Turnava has held key leadership positions in both the public and private sectors. She previously served as Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, as well as First Deputy Minister. Additionally, she was the Deputy Executive Director of the State Partnership Fund and the General Director and Chairwoman of the Board of Directors at the Georgian International Energy Corporation LLC.
Her appointment marks a historic milestone for the National Bank of Georgia, solidifying her role as a leading figure in the country’s financial and economic landscape.
