Untitled Gallery Presents New Exhibition of Dato Koridze's Project

Within the framework of Kolga Tbilisi Photo, Untitled Gallery presents the new exhibition of the project by Dato Koridze.

"Artificial" is a photo project/exhibition that is researching the values of art in the society of modern Georgia.

"Last year during the global crisis caused by the pandemic we clearly saw Georgian society’s approach to art and artists. Together with the representatives of other spheres, artists were part of the communities who suffered most from the restrictions due to COVID-19.

One of the clearest symbols of this crisis for photographer Dato Koridze is the unidentifiable wrapped elements in public spaces that popped up in the city. In most cases, we have no information about those objects, where they come from, what their function is or what is hidden behind the fabric that covers them.

Those suddenly born city sculptures represent exactly the situation around those artists who suffered and whose working space got limited most.

Today is the exact time to speak about the importance of the artist's role in our epoch and discuss what can be done by the government or general society so the art does not lose this value. Art, unlike most of the other spheres, gives enormous space for discussions, conclusions of numerous opinions, and for radically different minds to live together in peace for a better future.

This is and must be the art that sadly is standing wrapped right now paused, faceless, and invisible in our daily lives. This puts not only the career and general being of an artist in danger but also stops the sparkles of the society's development for more inclusivity and justice.

Dato Koridze is a Tbilisi based artist. He is the author of a number of projects talking about social inequality, minority rights, or communities' approach to different suppressive topics.

He is also a winner of many international festivals. Dato Koridze’s photo projects appeared in different world’s influential publishings.

Currently, he is a part of the team of Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty’s Tbilisi office. He continues working on his personal projects.", is written in the description of the event.

The curator of the exhibition is Giorgi Rodionov.

The event will be held at Untitled Gallery on May 15th, from 15:00 till 20:00 and will continue tilll the 9th of June.
