The Why Not Gallery Presents Malkhaz Gorgadze's Solo Show - Admonition

The Why Not Gallery presents artist Malkhaz Gorgadze’s second solo show ‘Admonition’.

Malkhaz Gorgadze (b. 1941) is among the most important representatives of Soviet Georgian monumental art. Publicly the artist was known for his monumental relief and mosaic panoramas and only recently his paintings became known to the general public. The artist employs his years-worth experience of working in public spaces and translates the monumental scale and perception into the discourse of contemporary art, creating canvases of no less physicality and intensity.

Presented exhibition thematically differs from the artist’s signature works, which mainly revolve around idyllic scenarios developed in magical landscapes, and through these highly aesthetic compositions, discuss philosophical, universal issues. His most recent series united under the title ‘Admonition’ reflects on the recent socio-political events, be it the pandemic, war in the region, the destruction and alienation that has engulfed and preoccupied our society. These paintings, infiltrated with symbolism act as the chronicles of our times and could be read as a kind of prophesy.

The exhibition will run until November 26th.
