NEVERTOLD - Open Space Presents Anastasia Akhvlediani's Exhibition
Open Space presents Anastasia Akhvlediani's personal exhibition NEVERTOLD.
Anastasia Akhvlediani was born in 1996 and lives and works in Tbilisi. In 2018 Anastasia graduated from the Visual Arts, Architecture and Design School at Free University, Tbilisi (VAADS), majoring in painting. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions and residency programs in Georgia and abroad. In 2018 Anastasia held a solo exhibition within the JIWAR Barcelona residency in Barcelona. "NEVERTOLD" is her first solo show in Georgia.
Exposition brings together several mediums - painting, object and installation. Some of the works were created specially for the show, while others are from an earlier period. The unifying line of the presented works is the stories heard.
Akhvlediani's recent artistic practice is based on observation. The artist's inspiration for this project are non-empirical stories heard at different stages of life, which are stored in memory, where they often continue to take shape and change. Their characters are replaced by other people, sometimes by the author herself. Stories develop in different directions, as in parallel worlds.
"NEVERTOLD" is the result of real stories, heard and being transformed through a prism of artist’s memory and fantasy, that is why in her artworks we can often find fantasy creatures and strange characters. Some details appear again and again in various works, like the same dream repeating for unknown reasons.
Symbols of caring are often found in Anastasia's works, which is facilitated by the abundance of embroidery - medium associated with feminine caring in her works. Embroidery is often contrasted by unevenly applied rough gypsum. On the same principle, a combination of rough contours and feminine details is often found in the author's artworks. Anastasia also often uses gypsum in her paintings, creating relief paintings that are an integral part of her current handwriting.
The exhibition will take place at Open Space, on February 26th.
