Kutaisi International Short Films Festival to Hold in May

On May 8-12, 2021, with the support of Kutaisi City Hall and the Georgian National Film Center, the Kutaisi International Short Film Festival will be held.
 
The festival will open on May 8 at the Lado Meskhishvili State Drama Theater with Leo Gabriadze's film "Hari Harale Mother". Tickets for all screenings will be free.
 
As part of the competition, which was announced in July 2020, the festival received up to 500 films from around the world. Competitive films include films from Georgia, France, Japan, Italy, Britain, the United States, Turkey, Belgium, Russia, Switzerland, Iran, Singapore, Spain, Pakistan, Argentina, Australia, India, and Poland.
 
  • 15 films are participating in the main competition of the festival (from 10 to 30 minutes).
  • 26 films are participating in the second competition (1 to 5-minute films).
The festival will name the winners on May 12.

The jury of the main international competition will present Festival Prize - Golden Dinosaur to the winners in two categories - Best Film and Best Director.

In the 1-5 minute film competition, in which professional and amateur authors participate, 1 prize will be awarded - Dinosaur Footprint - for the best film.
 
For 3 days, a wide audience will be able to get acquainted with a diverse program of French, Chinese, German short films; These films were provided completely free of charge by the Goethe Institute in Tbilisi, the French Institute in Georgia, and Chinese cinematographers.
 
Eldar Shengelaia's new short film ‘Cha’ will be screened at Kutaisi International Short Film Festival, among of last decade's modern Georgian short films.
 
A retrospective of Mikheil Kobakhidze's films will be organized, which will include his masterpieces 'Wedding', 'Umbrella', 'Musicians'.
 
The sessions will be held in the cinemas of "Kino Georgia".
 
"In addition to film screenings, the festival program also includes educational activities. Masterclasses will be conducted by: film director, producer Levan Gabriadze, photographer Guram Tsibakhashvili, cinematographer Alex Berkovic. A Screenplay Development Workshop is planned as part of the festival's industrial days, which will help novice filmmakers work on a short film script. Film professionals will share their experience with the participants of the workshop: Film playwright Givi Besik Odisharia, film director Levan Kitia, film director, screenwriter, producer Gela Babluani
 
Kutaisi International Short Film Festival will help revive cultural processes in the region and help the city of Kutaisi be included in the list of UNESCO creative cities. Kutaisi will continue the cinematic tradition, and young cinematographers will be able to introduce their creations to a wide audience, as well as gain the necessary knowledge for professional development.", the announcement reads.
