Georgian National Museum Hosts Contemporary Italian Artists Traveling Through Silk Road

From October 28, the Embassy of Italy in Georgia presents the exhibition of Italian contemporary artists -"The Silk Road. Contemporary Art and Artists from Italy" at the Georgian National Museum Tbilisi History Museum.

The exhibition displays 38 artworks of Italian artists in various media and techniques. It is an international exhibition that travels through the Silk Road and will eventually end up in China.

The exhibition presents a panorama of extraordinary contemporary Italian art from the late 1960s to present days. The artists of Italian avant-garde art, such as: Carla Accardi, Enrico Baj, Maria Lai, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Jannis Kounellis, Mimmo Paladino, Ettore Spalletti, Luigi Ontani, Giulio Paolini, Emilio Isgrò will be introduced to the audiance. Also, prominent representatives of Italian photography: Mimmo Jodice, Gabriele Basilico, Nino Migliori.

This exhibition is a continuation of the result of the close cooperation between Georgia and Italian Institutions. In 2017-2019, the Embassy of Italian Republic in Georgia and the Georgian National Museum organized exhibitions of international importance in two main exhibition spaces in Tbilisi. The main cultural event of 2021 become the exhibition of Pompeii treasures, first at the Archaeological Museum of Vani, and now at the Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia in Tbilisi.

The exhibition is conceived by the Garuzzo Institute for Visual Arts (IGAV) and realized thanks to the contribution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with the patronage of the Ministry of Culture.
