Exhibition Art Expo XX - XXI Centuries at Baia Gallery

Baia Gallery presents two main directions of the Gallery in the exhibition ‘Art Expo XX-XXI Centuries:’ paintings from private collections and works by contemporary artists.

The exhibition will be on display till April 25th, 2021.

The exhibition aims to show the parallels and differences, hidden connections, and obvious influences in the art through the works of artists of different generations, directions, and styles.

"The exposition of the XX century begins with the avant-garde, and the Gallery, for the first time in the Georgian gallery space presents Wassily Kandinsky’s xylography ‘Lady with a Fan.’ Samples of these replicated graphics are kept in the Guggenheim Museum in New York, at the Pompidou Center in Paris, and in several private collections. This work created by Kandinsky in Munich in 1903 is a part of his famous xylographic series and it is now displayed in the Baia Gallery along with the works by David Kakabadze, Petre Otskheli, Kirill Zdanevich. The exposition also includes the series of painted landscapes ‘Winter’ by Elene Akhvlediani, the impressionist landscape by Oskar Shmerling, Lado Gudiashvili’s compositions, ‘Dante’ by Sergo Kobuladze, 2 masterpieces by Felix Varlamishvili, the color of which looks like precious stones, works by Tengiz Mirzashvili and Edmond Kalandadze.
The ‘Star fall’ continues with the exposition of the XXI century, where Gogi Aleksi – Meskhishvili’s culturological ‘game’ on the verge of abstraction and figurative drawing (displayed in the Baia Gallery only) and Luca Lazar’s optical mantrism continue the experience of Kandinsky and Kakabadze. The energy of the flower compositions by Guranda Klibadze (displayed in the Baia Gallery only) and the mystical performance of Tato Akhalkatsishvili’s landscapes, the figurative conditionality of Kako Topouria’s lithographs demonstrates the path started by Otskheli and Zdanevich and creates a new model of Georgian culture in the modern world.

Sometimes it is difficult to understand this model and to move in its labyrinths and this requires knowledge and emotional access. Therefore, it is very important to follow Misha Gogrichiani’s lateritic - figurative painting quotes ‘Inquire about Art,’ which are our slogan for this exhibition. The content of the exhibition will change many times during its course, as the paintings will be moved to new collections and replaced by the artists who now create and represent the Georgian culture or are involved in its process.", is written in the description of the event.
