Dostroyka / Completion - Tbilisi Architecture Biennial 2020

What is common space and who creates it? What spatial impact do individual actions have on shared space? Can aesthetic chaos be overcome with better personal choices?

The game which is included in Dostroyka, seeks to are about to play seeks to raise awareness of the impact of each resident’s individual design decision on the spatial quality of the shared space. It emphasizes the tension between the individual needs and the common interest, inherent in a building process.

As a player one gets to observe other people’s design decisions in real-time – will you choose to take them into consideration when designing your own part? There is no right or wrong answer, but whatever one chooses to build is going to be part of their commons.

"Dostroyka is an interactive platform, wherein the visitors get to construct a piece of a virtual building with the use of a photographic archive of existing Tbilisian facades. The project stems from an observation of the dichotomous aspects of “commons” in Georgian culture: while the idea of collectivity is strongly present in everyday life, centered around family and get-togethers, the common space is greatly neglected and seems to be almost absent from the collective awareness.", is written in the description of the event.

Biennale takes place from the 17th of October to the 8th of November.

Besides taking the form of the online platform, Dostroyka will be a part of the traveling exhibition of the Tbilisi Architecture Biennial in Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, and Dnipro organized by MetaLab.
