Chinese Art in Georgian National Museum
Georgian National Museum presents the exhibition “Chinese art in Georgian National Museum” dedicated to 70th anniversary of People’s Republic of China and the presentation of the book at the same time (Authors: Irina Koshoridze, Marina Dgebuadze, Natia Demurishvili, Nino Simonishvili).
Chinese culture was known and appreciated in Georgia since the early medieval period. Silk Road, the most important trading road was crossing our country. According to archaeological explorations, the best quality silk and porcelain were brought through this road.
China, as a distinguished leader of Oriental civilization and culture, became somehow a trendsetter in the field of architecture, fine art, decorative and applied art. The biggest and richest heritage, which was acquired by the world from ancient Chinese culture, is a distinct confirmation for this statement.
The number and diversity of Chinese artifacts preserved at the Georgian National Museum give us a unique chance to keep an eye on the development rout of Chinese art from early medieval period to modern times. At the same time, in the variety of Chinese artifacts, individuality and distinctively impressive artistic aesthetics can be clearly seen.
In addition to the high historical and artistic value of the Chinese artifacts presented at the exhibition, they are giving a wide chronological range. The materials showing the friendship between Georgian and Chinese people, the posters, dedicated to the anniversary of the People`s Republic of China, will be on display in first exhibition hall. Works created on Georgian theme in the 80-90s of the 20th c. by Chinese painters – Chen Chuan and Jiang Shilung, who were visiting Georgia - will also be exhibited for the first time.
The artifacts from old Chinese culture – textiles, porcelain, paintings on silk and paper, embroidery, armory, and Buddhist cult figurines are exhibited in the second hall. Visitors of the third exhibition hall will take interest in view propaganda posters of the 1950 and 1960 that revive chronicles of the newest history of the People’s Republic of China. These works are exhibited for the first time as well.

The exhibition will continue from December 27th, 2019 at 17:00 to February 1st, 2020.
