Working Meeting Held with Vegetable Producers
Deputy Ministers of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Lasha Dolidze and Lasha Avaliani, held a working meeting with vegetable producers to discuss sector development and existing challenges.
“At the meeting with vegetable producers, we discussed legislative and regulatory issues, access to services—including irrigation water supply—as well as knowledge-sharing and financing mechanisms. We agreed to continue cooperation through specific projects, which will include improving the financing system, strengthening monitoring, and developing effective knowledge-sharing schemes,” said Lasha Dolidze.
During the meeting, farmers were provided with detailed information about the new irrigation tariff set by the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission. Changes to the irrigation water tariff subsidy mechanism were also discussed. It was noted that timely contracts with water users for amelioration services ensure a stable supply of irrigation water and the efficient functioning of the system.
“We summarized and discussed key issues related to the start of the 2026 amelioration and irrigation season together with farmers. They shared their perspectives, and we introduced new programs related to subsidy mechanisms, a new contract system, the use of modern technologies, and the timely provision of essential information for farmers,” said Gigla Tamazashvili, General Director of Georgian Amelioration Ltd.
According to the farmers, the meeting was productive. They emphasized the importance of having the opportunity to directly share their views with ministry representatives and expressed the need to continue dialogue on sector challenges in the future.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, was also attended by Zurab Gozalishvili, Director of the Rural Development Agency; Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Agricultural Scientific-Research Center; Zurab Lipartia, Deputy Head of the National Food Agency; and heads of relevant departments of the Ministry.
