Under the State Program for Windbreak Inventory, and in accordance with the plan approved by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the inventory will be conducted in 2026 across four regions, covering a total area of 4,893.04 hectares.
The estimated areas of windbreaks by region are as follows:
- Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti – 8.72 hectares
- Adjara – 662 hectares
- Imereti – 1,879.54 hectares
- Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 2,342.78 hectares
Within the inventory process, data will be collected on the remaining tree species in windbreak belts, including their quantity, age structure, and overall condition. At the same time, cadastral survey drawings will be prepared, forming the basis for registering these areas as windbreak belts with the National Agency of Public Registry of Georgia.
The State Program for Windbreak Inventory has been continuously implemented since 2021. Its main objective is to create a unified database of windbreaks and ensure their registration with the Public Registry, thereby guaranteeing their legal protection and effective management.
Between 2021 and 2025, the inventory covered 30 municipalities nationwide, totaling 12,046.3 hectares. During the same period, 6,707.9 hectares of agricultural land have already been registered as windbreak belts, with the registration process ongoing.
The inventory of windbreaks across Georgia is planned to be completed in 2026, creating a key foundation for systematic, data-driven management. A comprehensive and accurate database will enable the state to effectively plan the restoration and maintenance of windbreaks, contributing to the prevention of wind erosion of soil and increasing agricultural productivity.
